Internships are at the core of the Bard NYC experience.

Students intern for 15–20 hours a week at professional organizations across a variety of industries in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors throughout New York City. Working closely with mentors at host organizations, students experience careers firsthand, gaining valuable knowledge that helps them make informed choices about their future and successfully navigate the path from college to career.
A group of students pose goofily for the camera, making peace signs and silly faces.
Upon enrollment, students work closely with Bard NYC staff to identify internship organizations and opportunities that match their individual interests and goals. They are guided through the cover letter and resume writing process and, most importantly, are able to take advantage of Bard NYC’s extensive professional network in New York City to secure a part-time internship. At the outset of the internship, each student is assigned a mentor at their host organization to support them throughout their time in New York City. Students, Bard NYC staff, and internship mentors work closely together to ensure an engaging and rewarding experience. Unlike a standalone internship, Bard NYC participants learn from each other through the core seminar, reflecting on their work and participating in professional development as they progress through the semester.

The Student Experience, in Their Own Words

  • “The work done by the Bard staff is simply invaluable. Each student had the opportunity to maximize their resume and LinkedIn page, and to participate in mock interviews. One-on-one meetings were held with everyone and each found an internship placement tailored to their preferences.”
    –Alix, Fall 2023
  • “The internship gave me the opportunity to break into US foreign policy. I was able to get outside of my comfort zone academically, professionally, and personally.”
    –Kamsi, Spring 2024

Career Exploration at Bard NYC

Bard NYC further augments the student internship experience with career readiness programming, giving students an opportunity to develop and reflect on essential skills valued by employers today. Beginning during orientation, sessions cover workplace etiquette, utilizing LinkedIn, and networking, among other topics. Additional career panels and events throughout the semester provide candid discussions of various career paths and advice from young professionals.

Recent Internships

This is not an exhaustive list of internship options. Students can apply to additional Bard NYC partner organizations, as well as seek out other positions in consultation with program staff.
